We highly recommend that every pet receive a microchip. This small device is easily placed and can be very successful in reuniting lost pets with their families. The small microchip is usually effective for the life of your pet, and has an identification number attached to it that cannot be altered.
At our veterinary hospital, we use the HomeAgain microchip. HomeAgain microchips are designed to last your pet’s entire lifetime and they link to a permanent listing in their national lost pet database. This means anytime/anywhere pet recovery service—no matter how far your lost pet has traveled.
If your pet is already microchipped (no matter the brand of chip) we can still register your pet with HomeAgain , for a minimal fee, to ensure your pet is routed directly to you, in case they go missing.
How it works:
- A needle is used to place the device between the shoulders, where it will sit quietly for the life of your pet. This process can be done at any age and is no more painful than your pet’s standard vaccinations.
- Unlike most other veterinarians or shelters we will register your pet with Homeagain and pay your first year’s premium membership fee, so you don’t have to take time out of your busy schedule to register yourself!
- When a pet is found, a special scanner is used to send a safe radio signal through the skin to obtain the identification number. Once this information is retrieved, the veterinarian or shelter can call Homeagain to determine the registration of the microchip. You will then be contacted directly and informed that your pet has been found. Most local veterinarians and shelters routinely scan all lost animals for microchips.
